Penang Chingay Festival 2009

I was there on 26th Jul 09, Sunday morning at 8.30a.m.

A total of 7 teams participated in the Chingay competition this year. Hmmm....why so few uh?!
I didn't manage to get a good view from where I stand, as I was standing at the corner just right behind the stage. Therefore not possible to take any good shots at all! It's a pity loh as a few good teams were doing some dangerous and high risk stunts that really impressed me!

A Night of Symphony & Wind Orchestra

Last Friday (24th Jul), I went to Dewan Sri for "A Night of Symphony and Wind Orchestra"held there.

This is the park inside the Dewan Sri. Nice heh?!

Featuring Penang Symphony Orchestra and Penang Wind Orchestra.

Penang Symphony Orchestra presented 4 songs.

Penang Wind Orchestra presented 3 songs, including 'Phantom of the Opera" which is more down-to-earth. :) followed by "Jupiter" from Planets and Festive Overtune Op.96.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion @ 14, Leith Street, Georgetown.

I have finally made it to this Blue Mansion on 13th Jul 09. There were altogether ~25 pax of us during this tour.

Cheong Fatt Tze Daily Tours at 11am and 3pm sharp ONLY. RM12 per pax.

No photo shooting is allowed inside the building therefore I only managed to capture those external ones.

The main door. From here it will lead you to the living hall, where guests are seated here while waiting for the house owners in ancient time.

Do pay attention to all these 'skirtings' on the roofs.

These were all originated from coloured porcelain bowls. pasted by sifu from China, piece by piece.

We were lucky. There is one guestroom which was vacant thus we managed to go in for a look. I was deeply impressed with the mansion in overall. Undeniably it deserves the "Most Excellent Project" award at the UNESCO Heritage Awards 2000.

Personally I found that the 1 hour tour is a bit too short for me as the briefing on the history done at the living hall has taken up too much time initially. There is one gallery room which I found quite interesting, but kinda disappointed as we need to rush browsing through. Somemore some of the rooms were not opened for viewing. My advice for those who intend to go for the visit - perhaps you got to let go some of the briefings done by the tour guide so that you can grab chance to look around 'in depths' when she is talking. :)

If you met an accident on the way back home from office , on the road where a lot of your colleagues passing by, will they stop their cars to offer help ?

I recently experienced myself and was disappointed over the attitude of my colleauges. Some of those were same office as me. Some were considered in close 'working connection' with me too.

Only one stopped when I was nearly done with the 'knocker'. The rest only came to you the next day and asked," Hey, how is your car ah yesterday? kena knock ah? blah blah blah......."

Ceritera Ringgit : The chroncles of Ringgit @ Penang State Museum.

I went last Sunday! RM1 only for entrance fee.

The Ringgit Exhibition only occupies a small room. A bit disappointed. What's great was I finally managed to see how the genuine duit pisang(Banana money) looks like! I actually liked the 1st floor exhibition which I could see the old photos of how Penang look like especially at some streets during the free trade harbour era.

I personally think that this is a very great creation for ladies with long hair! It is tight enough to hold your ponytail and yet won't leave 'mark' on your hair.

I MUST SHARE this method WITH YOU all. It's been at least a few months since I last cured it using this method. I kept on forgetting to blog it out. Now finally ......


A chinese traditional way. The easiest, the cheapest and most effective way!


I tried before using such 'treatment' that can be easily bought from pharmacy but IN VAIN.

I regretted for not taking the BEFORE pictures. Now I can only show you the AFTER pictures..

Evidence #1. See? The 'mark' there previously was a BLACK DEEP corn.

Evidence #2 : Second toe got one corn previously and it 'infected' the 3rd toe. Corn can be infectious ('tuah' in hokkien) one. Now this is the second toe after cured.

Previously before I tried, Heng told me "When one get cured, the rest will automatically cured also one, very magic one!"

Evidence #3 : When the 2nd toe is cured, 3rd toe also AUTOMATICALLY cured too. Now I believe with my own experience.

Use this! Joss stick! 寺庙里点的敬神的香 . 中国人拜佛时焚的]香 .

Light up one stick and use the burning end to 'burn' your corn, it gonna be slightly stinging, you have to bear it. Anyway, since you are the one to hold the joss stick, therefore you can adjust your applying force. You stop after you feel that you cannot tolerate anymore. For me, each time I stopped after 'burning' it for about 10 times. The burnt part will appear now as 'black'.

For my case, I repeated doing so after every few days. I did it every now and then, not really following the schedule though as some time I forgot to do it! :p If not mistaken, in about 2- 3 wks time, it dried up and even before I realized the 'dead black thing' dropped, i's GONE !

Angels & Demons (novel vs movie)

I watched in a cinema and I was disappointed.


Novel : Vittoria is the daughther of the scientist who has died, Leonardo Vetra.
Movie : The scientist who is dead is Victoria's partner.


Novel : The director of CERN, Maximilian Kohler, in wheelchair is the one who found the death of and called Victoria back from overseas and contacted Langdon for assistance.
Movie : Kohler - does not exist. :(


Novel : A reporter and camera crew for the BBC. They are contacted by the Hassassin and get to know first-hand news on where next death execution of the cardinal is.
Movie : No such characters. :(


Novel : Cardinal Mortati, host of the election, faithful to the religion.
Movie : Nah, nothing to explain why he is faithful.


Novel : Langdon is having phobia in confined room due to childhood experience.
Movie : No such phobia.


Novel : The 5th ambigram is actually a diamond shape.
Movie : Totally different from the one shown in the novel.


Novel : Camerlengo is the pope's son. That explained why the pope supported science because science has created him a miracle - a son conceived by artificial insemination.
Movie : Skip! No reveal such thing.


Novel : The poem is repeatedly mentioned while Langdon and Victoria tried to retrace the "Path of Illumination".
Movie : Did the poem mention in full, for even once?



Novel : For the 3rd element, fire, Langdon is nearly killed by Hassassin when he crawled down and hide underground. Hassasin let out a few gun shots trying to hunt him down.
Movie : One scene showing he's crawling to hide underground, the next scene showing he's popping up from the hole rescued by the firemen.


Novel : Hassassin kidnapped Vittoria after the 3rd element (fire). Langdon went to rescue her at the final element (water).
Movie : Vittoria has never been kidnapped in the movie.


Novel : Hassassin died after being pushed from a balcony by Langdon and breaking his back on a pile of cannonballs below.
Movie : Hassasin was killed in a car explosion when he has completed his last task.


Novel : Kohler is the one who flew to meet Camerlengo after reading the diary of the died scientist.
Movie : This character is actually represented by the commander.


Novel : The Camerlengo retrieve the antimatter and get into the helicopter. Langdon went in also.
Movie : Only Camerlengo went into the helicopter.


Novel : Displays Hassasin's sadistic lust for women.
Movie : No.



I was definitely not satisfied with the ways Langdon uncovering clues to find the Path of Illumination. It is way too brief.

Everything was explained through conversation. I don't think those who don't read the novels before one will actually understand 100%.

The scenes which I like and turn out to be the same as what being shown in the movie are :
(1) The 3rd (fire) and 4th (water) death scenes.
(2) Langdon is nearly killed inside the library due to oxygen supply is cut off. How he attempts to push down the bookshelves in order to break the glass.

I know this is a 2-hours-19-mins show. How could I have expected it to be that detailed as narrated in the novel right? Haiyah!
